Goldstein<\/div>\r\n<\/div>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mass.gov\/?pageID=elwdagencylanding&amp;L=4&amp;L0=Home&amp;L1=Government&amp;L2=Departments+and+Divisions+(EOLWD)&amp;L3=Division+of+Occupational+Safety&amp;sid=Elwd\" target=\"_blank\">Massachusetts Division of Occupational Safety (DOS)<\/a> issues prevailing wage schedules to cities, towns, counties, districts, authorities, and agencies of the Commonwealth for construction projects and several other types of public work. These prevailing wage schedules contain hourly wage rates that workers must receive when working on a public project.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mass.gov\/?pageID=elwdagencylanding&amp;L=4&amp;L0=Home&amp;L1=Government&amp;L2=Departments+and+Divisions+(EOLWD)&amp;L3=Division+of+Occupational+Safety&amp;sid=Elwd\" target=\"_blank\">DOS<\/a> regularly issues <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mass.gov\/?pageID=elwdsubtopic&amp;L=5&amp;L0=Home&amp;L1=Workers+and+Unions&amp;L2=Wage+and+Employment+Related+Programs&amp;L3=Prevailing+Wage+Program&amp;L4=Prevailing+Wage+Opinion+Letters&amp;sid=Elwd\" target=\"_blank\">Prevailing Wage Opinion Letters<\/a> and recently released <a href=\"https:\/\/old.visionpayroll.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/EOLWD-PW-2010-09-07.20.10.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">PW-2010-09-07.20.10<\/a>. This letter confirms \u201cthe job classification under the Massachusetts Prevailing Wage Law for workers who repair and replace components of source capture vehicle exhaust systems in public works projects at various fire stations.\u201d The following categories of tasks were at issue:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The workers repair and replace \u201cnozzles\u201d and \u201cpneumatic grabbers\u201d which provide an airtight connection between the system and the vehicle exhaust pipe.<\/li>\n<li>The workers repair and replace \u201cairlines\u201d which are housed inside the \u201csystem exhaust hose.\u201d The \u201cairlines\u201d are connected to the grabber and facilities the air-tight fit, as well as facilitate the extraction of the exhaust fumes from the building via the system.<\/li>\n<li>The workers repair and replace \u201cupper exhaust hoses\u201d and \u201clower exhaust hoses\u201d on the system, which house the inner airlines, and connect the pneumatic grabber to the system duct work.<\/li>\n<li>The workers repair and replace \u201cuncoupling valves\u201d and \u201cquick release fittings\u201d on the system, which facilitates the disconnection of the system from the vehicle, when the vehicle exits the fire station.<\/li>\n<li>The workers repair and replace the \u201cregulator\u201d, which regulates the air flow.<\/li>\n<li>The workers repair and replace the \u201cbalancer\u201d, which keeps the hose elevated above the floor.<\/li>\n<li>The workers repair and replace \u201cshut off valves\u201d, \u201cpressure switch\u201d, \u201ccompressors\u201d, \u201cpressure sensors\u201d, \u201cchrome elbows\u201d, \u201cfive horse power motors\u201d, safety disconnect mechanisms, \u201cback draft dampers\u201d, \u201cdrain cocks\u201d, and various other components.<\/li>\n<li>The workers repair and replace sheet metal duct work and\/or fittings.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mass.gov\/?pageID=elwdagencylanding&amp;L=4&amp;L0=Home&amp;L1=Government&amp;L2=Departments+and+Divisions+(EOLWD)&amp;L3=Division+of+Occupational+Safety&amp;sid=Elwd\" target=\"_blank\">DOS<\/a> concluded that \u201cthe repair and replacement of components of source capture vehicle exhaust systems work, as described herein, is paid at the rate for \u2018Sheet metal worker\u2019 as indicated on the rate sheet\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"mailto:info@visionpayroll.com\" target=\"_blank\">Vision Payroll<\/a> is ready to assist employers in gathering information for certified weekly payroll reports. <a href=\"mailto:info@visionpayroll.com\" target=\"_blank\">Vision Payroll<\/a> can also prepare the certified weekly payroll reports for submission to the proper authorities.
